Best burger in Seoul

Foreign food in Seoul is really a mixed bag. The breakdown is kind of like this:

You have your restaurants that are actually run by foreigners and for the most part authentic. That doesn’t promise that the food will be good but at least it tastes accurate to it’s name.

You also have your foreign restaurants run by Koreans. Usually the owner or whoever took interest to a certain cuisine and decided to make a restaurant around it. Some times good, some times bad but the real key is if they used real recipes and ingredients or if they “koreanized” the food. An example which comes to mind is that pizza is generally sweet here like from the popular chain “Mr. Pizza”. If you’re used to grease covered salty, cheesy pizza American style, then you might not like Korean style pizza.

Also sometimes recipes are changed because of the lack of access to real ingredients.

Ok so why did I mention all that stuff? Because burgers here from my experience often times taste different. I think it generally comes down to the type of beef the restaurant has. I’ll admit I’m biased but tastewise, I’ll take my American steroid cow beef over most any other kind. Being from the States, I’m very particular about my burgers.

I checked out Jacoby’s which is a little burger place/bar in Noksapyeong. Jacoby’s has a lot of different burgers but they’re known for the infamous “gut buster” burger so that’s what I had to get.

The Gut Buster takes 20-30 minutes to cook but it’s worth it. Not only do you get a bad ass picture to show off to your friends like so:

The burger itself is actually very good. You get the option to choose either Rosemary or Garlic seasoned beef and I really don’t have much else to say except look at the picture and go. The burger was so good that I actually went back a week later for a friend’s going away party and got this monster instead.

I disagree. Burgers should never be marinated. The burger is too big to eat, using a fork and knife is wrong on many fronts. The fries were soggy and bland and eight dollars. This is a restaurant that you will visit once and never come back.

I agree with Kuroteh. A burger shouldn’t be eaten with a fork and knife. I just tried Jacoby a couple weeks ago and was unimpressed. The patty was tasty, but I think beef patties should just be beef. Also, their “jacoby sauce is A1 mixed with a bit of honey bbq sauce and some ground black pepper. Nothing special in my opinion. I went to a place called Brooklyn The Burger Joint in the french district. Their burger was a good version of a classic american restaurant burger (meaning when u go to a restaurant and feel like a burger, but that’s not their specialty). Their chili cheese fries were delicious.
